The Big Splash
A swim benefit to support the University of Nebraska Medical Center's Munroe-Meyer Institute
Please note:
The big splash has combined event sites to accommodate more families wanting to participate together!
We’re inviting all participants in the morning Competitive Youth, Corporate & adult, and Non-traditional events to join us at Westside High School for one competitive AND inspirational swim event. All ages, all abilities and all sorts of fun at one pool.
Also, the afternoon Swim and Splash events will take place at select pool locations to provide the same fun, family-oriented atmosphere for all the activities. Register at any one to join in on the Big Splash!
For many years you’ve seen large community events capture the participation and enthusiasm of various types of competitors. Thousands of people from our communities have run in Corporate Cups, pedaled in cycling challenges, hoop’d in basketball tournaments, and spiked in volleyball matches, but never yet have we all jumped into the pool for a really great cause.
On August 28 and 29, 2009, 24 hours of recreational and competitive swimming events will take place as Omaha and Lincoln dive into the first ever Big Splash.
The Big Splash will include families, area athletes, Omaha businesses and even an Olympian to celebrate the courage and abilities of those with developmental and physical disabilities. The funds raised by the Big Splash will be used across the state to maintain, as well as enhance and expand, existing services and programs through UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) for Genetics and Rehabilitation.
MMI provides clinical services to more than 10,000 individuals and families each year and conducts research into innovative therapies to offer new ways to help individuals with disabilities. MMI and its staff of physicians and therapists, along with family-centered services offer hope in times of uncertainty. They are committed to empowering individuals with disabilities and their families to be as successful as possible.
MMI has a vision to be a national leader in its educational, diagnostic and outreach capabilities to challenge boundaries, but we need your help. With each dollar raised, this dedicated team can offer new hope and promise to improve and truly unlock the potential of each patient.
